Department of Library and Information Science

Headed by Dr. A. O. Adeyemo, the Department of Library and Information Science offers a B.LIS Library and Information Science program. The department focuses on training professionals in information management, organization, retrieval, and dissemination. It prepares students for careers in libraries, archives, information centers, and digital resource management. What is Library and Information Science?

Library and Information Science (LIS) is the academic and professional discipline concerned with the organization, management, preservation, retrieval, and dissemination of information in both traditional and digital formats. It equips students with the knowledge and skills to manage libraries, information centres, archives, digital repositories, and knowledge management systems effectively.

The discipline combines principles of librarianship with modern information and communication technologies (ICT) to ensure that information resources are accurately organized, easily accessible, and effectively utilized. Students are trained in information organization, cataloguing and classification, digital librarianship, records management, database management, information literacy, research methods, and the application of emerging technologies in information services.

Library and Information Science prepares graduates for careers as librarians, information managers, archivists, records managers, knowledge managers, digital content specialists, and information consultants in educational institutions, government agencies, corporate organizations, research institutes, and international organizations.
